Our Story
Rick and I met in 2017 and from day one, we loved going out and travelling. In our first year of dating, we visited the Florida Keys, the ancient Bristlecone trees of the Inyo National Forest in California, Cartagena, Colombia and El Nido, Philippines. In addition to our love of travel, we found that we enjoyed bringing those experiences into our home. In the following years, especially during COVID, we attempted several DIY home projects and interior design upgrades to our home.
Halfway through the COVID years, we thought about where we could be happiest while we telework, and the beach was on the top of our list. Eventually, we found the perfect place in Willoughby Spit, Norfolk, VA where we blended our passion for travel, home projects and interior design into our home and our vacation rentals. And from the start, we have truly enjoyed sharing our beach experience with others and hope to do more in the future.
We love that this beach is tucked away almost private with calm waves. It’s easy, comfortable and hassle free away from the crowds.
Our Team
Balou started his latest journey by being rescued from being euthanized at a shelter in Princes George's County, Maryland (where there is a pit bull ban). LovePaws.com rescued him, fundraised and saved him from urinary tract infection and bladder stones issues. After healing up, he entered the adoption process. And in 2020, he chose to live with Merlyn and Rick where he started his life of treats, travel, and training. He tried his paw at Instagram modeling for a few years before starting his latest venture as property manager for Big Blue Getaway on the Bay. He now enjoys meeting new guests, long walks on the beach and the occasional photo shoot.
